Non-Profit Online Resource Library – Totally Open For All – Coachella Valley

Filed under: Story — admin @ 10:26 am

Not long ago, I was discussing with a fellow philanthropist type and community volunteer the need for better distribution of important information for the non-profit groups of the Coachella Valley. As you know this Valley is known for its community spirit and volunteerism. It’s part of the fiber that holds this Valley together. Not a day goes by when I do not hear mention of one of my friend’s and their volunteerism endeavors. This is a strong and united community, which I am very proud to call my own.

My question is how can we help those who give so much help everyone else more efficiently? What can we do to make their jobs easier? My thoughts and those of our Online Think Tank, a recent meeting, were numerous, but one stood out as an easy thing to do that would not cost much. Then I got to thinking what a great resource the Desert Sun Newspaper and their new online presence is. Why not put together a reading library with reports, figures, facts, research and information for non-profits? Accessible not only to residence here, but throughout the Entire World! Why?

Well, first it puts the Coachella Valley on the map for being so philanthropic and it is an advertisement that this is the best place to live, a community that lives together and sticks together. Maybe some of our non-profit endeavors and commitment might rub off on others and create a new wave of volunteerism for worthy causes. There is power in that level of synergy. Now then, I generally like to lead by example and thus, I do have available some reports and “How to” eBooks that I could donate to the online library free of charge to get it going. What say you?

Sir Edmund Hillary Final Summit

Filed under: Story — admin @ 10:26 am

It’s not often in life we see living legends. Sir Edmund Hillary was one such man. His most obvious achievement was climbing Mount Everest, however this was just the beginning of an amazing life.

Hillary had no great advantages coming from no famous family or riches and wealth, born an average pleb in Auckland, New Zealand. He was just an average man who accomplished amazing things. Climbing Everest merely being one of many. He and his Sherpa, Tenzing Norgay were the first to climb the tallest mountain in the world. They climbed into the death zone on primitive oxygen systems and through unchartered territory – such as the Hillary step. Unlike modern climber who have teams of Sherpas to lay out ropes, – and ladders on the Hillary step – Hillary had no such help – having to cut out steps with ice ax every step of the way and having to climb the step. The only advantage compared to modern climbers is that they didn’t have to wait in queques to get to the top – in fact today Everest is over crowded with climbers such is the desire of many to repeat the feat – however even today with modern technology the price of the climb often results in death – which only goes to highlight the magnitude of the achievement over 50 years ago.

Many would have been satisfied with that achievement and gladly entered retirement. Hillary having seen that the people of Nepal didn’t have schools and hospitals spent time and effort to get them built forming the Himalayan Trust. He also drove the first motor vehicle to Antarctica and traveled the River Ganges from mouth to source. He represented the adventurer spirit that people like to think they have. He later served as the NZ high commissioner to India.

He achieved numerous honors in his life such as the order of the Garter, Knight commander of the order of the British empire, and member of the order of New Zealand. He was probably one of the most decorated persons outside of royalty and military endeavors. He appears on the New Zealand $5 note and giving his passing it is unlikely that anyone will replace him in that honor.

Edmund Hillary represented everything good about New Zealand – it is a shame he and that old New Zealand is passing away into history.

Panspermia – Life from Outer Space

Filed under: Story — admin @ 10:26 am

Life’s origin is a riddle for which naturalism has no answer. For this very reason many have rejected the naturalistic explanation. Those who remain in the naturalist camp usually say one of two things. Some tell us life came from outer space. Others say, it didn’t.

Spores or microspores have been found on meteorites, and a few claim these spores are circling around other planets. It is impossible to prove or disprove their theory. Perhaps the meteorites simply picked these spores up when they entered earth’s atmosphere.

That brings up the question: If spores are really out there drifting around in space, how did they ever escape their home planet’s gravitation field?

Remember, naturalists claim atoms combined by chance to produce life. Without gravity, the chance of any atoms uniting is about nil. And if the spores ever did somehow make it to space, they would be subjected to radiation, severe heat, and cold. Can they survive all of that? If so, when spores are sucked into earth’s atmosphere, what is to prevent them from burning up on entry?

Due to these inherent difficulties, most scientists say life on earth probably started here rather than elsewhere. Besides, as we have seen, all 24 chemical molecules found in living organisms are natural elements native to earth. Therefore, it is not necessary to look beyond this planet for life’s origins.

Even if the “spores from space” idea were true, it would not solve anything. Panspermia, as the theory is called, merely pushes the mysterious beginnings of life back to another place, another world. If you have enough imagination, you can envision spores drifting serenely along from one planet to another populating the solar system.

But why stop there? By quirk, let’s say a few enterprising spores made their way from one end of the universe to the other. Still, they had to start somewhere. Somewhere in this universe those spores had a sphere they could call home. There, they had their origins. There, they were either accidents or they were designed. It had to be one or the other.

The majority of naturalists agree that Panspermia is improvable and irrelevant. Then how do they account for the origin of life? Plain and simple, they don’t. Eventually, they believe some additional bit of information will come down the pike. And it will show how life might have made its way by natural means. Some future investigation or experiment will exonerate their faith in naturalism.

A couple of things need to be said here. First, no investigation or experiment can ever prove that life began in any particular way. The most it can do is offer us a theoretical possibility. That is to say, it could have happened this or that way. Second, naturalists are not ignorant. They too realize that the preponderance of evidence favors design. However, they are quite willing to dismiss substantial data which they find distasteful and place their trust in future events, hoping for more favorable news.

That is not a scientific approach. In fact, it is not science at all.
