Tennis Essentials – Physical and Mental

Filed under: Story — admin @ 11:13 am

Just like any other competitive sport, tennis is both a physical and mental game. Having the right kind of equipment that suits your style of play is not all that is required in order to play the game and succeed but it helps since having the right equipment with high quality of material and workmanship will have its benefits at any point during the game.

To enjoy the game better, always provide yourself with the suitable tennis clothes, shoes and equipment. Do not choose any equipment, especially your shoes and racquet simply because your favorite player wears them. In choosing your shoes, make sure that it is a good fit and durable enough to stand the rigors of lateral, forward and backward movements including sudden stops and skids especially when you are playing on grass and clay courts. For your choice of the right racquet there are more variables that have to be considered – racquet frame material, string pattern, size of the handle, weight, and balance are critical factors to consider to obtain the best performance results.

Choosing the right ball is also important since you ultimately need a ball that has regular bounce properties in order to learn how to play the game correctly and competitively.

Watching the videos of professional tennis players is also a necessity if you are really interested in playing the game successfully and are eager to join tournaments and competitions. Watching the pros play the game is in itself a learning experience since you can pick up really good techniques and tactics when it comes to feet position, racquet grip, strokes and their style of play. Having audio and visual aids in learning the game considerably helps in advancing any one’s playing style.

Practice your strokes in front of a full length mirror so you can see yourself. This allows you to check if your feet are positioned properly, your shoulders aligned and if you are shifting your body weight correctly. Read as much as you can about the theories of tennis and its rules even before you set your feet on the court. Doing so would prepare you immensely even if you are just a beginner.

It is natural that your progress would not be as fast as you thought it would be. However, do not let your spirits and love for the game get dampened by your seemingly slow progress. All tennis players had to go through the same hardships and are rewarded when in the course of a match they discover that hard work pays off because they were able to hit the ball for a winner with the stroke that they have been practicing for days, even weeks! Being skillful at tennis is not inborn, it is the product of hundreds nay even thousands of hours of constant practice and hard work doing the same thing over and over until it becomes second nature to you.

Learning to play tennis opens up new worlds to the player. Having a tennis racquet in your luggage when you travel easily tells everybody that you are a player and people of the same genre would surely walk up and befriend you because of one thing in common – you play the same game! Tennis offers any individual the chance to relax, exercise, and enjoy the challenge of playing the game after a hard day’s work even when on a business trip. Besides, there is no age limit to playing tennis as long as you enjoy the game.

To better enjoy the game of tennis, you should, even as a beginner, learn to concentrate and improve yourself on the following aspects of the game in order to benefit quicker.

When playing, always put your total concentration on the game, watch the ball with eagle eyes, remember to put your knowledge of foot work and weight control into any stroke you make, be a gentleman and always stay in the game mentally and physically.

Mental court presence is very important during any point in the game since your focus is always on the ball and getting it into play or putting it beyond reach of your opponent for a win. Do not let unnecessary distractions take your mind away from the enjoyment of the game and you will soon see your tennis improve!

A player who can play the game in his mind every single point will surely win the match because of his intent focus!

Nadal Wins the French Open For the Fourth Consecutive Time

Filed under: Story — admin @ 12:13 pm

The Spaniard Rafael Nadal simply took everything from his opponent Roger Federer to conquer his fourth consecutive French Open title.

Despite Nadal’s already accomplished grand slams being four of those French Opens; the experience and retired tennis player Bjorn Borg did venture to make some predictions before the final game between Nadal vs. Federer, which by the way were the complete opposite.

“A lot of people say no one can beat Nadal the way he’s been playing. But I think Roger has a really, really good chance,” the great Swede said on the eve of Sunday’s final. But Borg was wrong, Federer got beat 6-1, 6-3,6-0.

“I think it’s going to be a really open final. I think it’s going to be a long match, very close, close match, and if Roger wins Paris, no doubt he’s the greatest player who ever played the game,” said Borg.

Borg was wrong again, Rafael Nadal won the most uneven men’s final in Paris, France ever since 1977 and this became the shortest final since 1980 as it only took one hour 48 minutes.

The game was only one sided, Nadal was uncomfortable to rejoice his title win whereas Roger Federer was even more humiliated to received the runner’s up 530,000 Euros check.

From the time when Federer has his first debut at the French Open in 1999, he has accumulated149 wins and 23 losses record. However; none of those losses will upset and hurt him as much as this Sunday’s final against Nadal.

Federer, who has built up his reputation to be the number one and defeating his opponents in consistent ways, for once, was the one receiving an absolute massacre by Rafael Nadal. Unquestionably; that wasn’t the exhibition fans expected from the 12-times Grand Slam champion.

“After a loss like this you don’t want to play Rafa again tomorrow, that’s for sure,” claimed a shell-shocked Federer.

As an alternative for Federer to become the man to win all four major grand slam titles, Federer received the merit of becoming the first tennis player to lose three times in a row the French Open (Roland Garros) finals.

Nadal’s game was impressive, solid and unstoppable during the whole tournament; he became the first tennis player since Borg in 1980 to win the French Open without loosing a set, proving with that clay is his court regardless what others can suggest.

Also; as Borg… Nadal is the only tennis player to win four consecutive titles since the event was proclaimed international in 1925. Critics said that probably only Nadal’s health could stop him from expanding his record of 28-0 at Roland Garros in 2009.

After his triumph in France, people ask him to explain the secret of his success, and Rafael Nadal replies saying: : “Well, if you have no special motivation for a tournament like Roland Garros you can retire, go home, fishing, have a boat, enjoy the life, no?”

Now for Federer his focus turns to the green lawns of Wimbledon where he has been undefeated for five years. Unluckily for Federer, Nadal will be closer breaking at his feet. However; we shall expect to enjoy lots of action as very likely these two incredible players will meet again for the All England Club Crown.

The Dish: Owens Pipes Up Again

Filed under: Story — admin @ 12:13 pm

Terrell Owens will never win a championship.

Neither will Randy Moss, Barry Bonds, Jeremy Shockey or Kellen Winslow Jr.

But today I’d like to talk about Owens, the anti-New-England-Patriot, the man about whom nothing surprises anyone, the Dennis Rodman of the NFL, the man who is positive that the world was created primarily to praise him. You know about his big contract stink with the Niners a couple years back, when his agent forgot to cross some Ts and dot some Is, and Owens accidentally missed free agency. You know how he vetoed a trade to Baltimore by threatening not to report, and you know how he muscled into Philly. You know how this offseason, he stomped and whined like Angelina Jolie standing before a fake-boob detector, because he didn’t like the incredibly lucrative contract he signed the year before. But do you know T.O. wasn’t pleased that the Eagles didn’t stop the game and hold a ceremony in honor of his 100th career receiving touchdown two weeks ago?

That’s right, horror of horrors, Owens came out this week and questioned the entire Eagles organization because, in the middle of a terrible skein in which the defending NFC champs look like they could struggle to finish with a winning record, the team didn’t single out an individual achievement for a player who’s been louder than Cyndi Lauper. And this after the Eagles did recognize his 100th overall TD just a few weeks ago. Then, after calling out the organization, Owens set his sights on QB Donovan McNabb, saying that it’s Donny’s fault the team is losing, and that if the Eagles had Brett Favre at the helm, they’d be undefeated. Is the man insane? They lost 49-21 last week. Does McNabb plug rushing lanes? Does he defend bombs? Does he blitz? Does he tackle?

No, T.O. is through in Philly, just as he’s through in San Fran and through in Baltimore. He’ll never get the fans back now, and he’ll probably be gone this offseason, gone to another franchise who’ll buy into the fool’s gold of his physical talents, and who will guarantee themselves, like the Niners and Eagles before them, that they will never win a title with Owens aboard.
I feel a huge NFL game in the offing. How do you see the Colts/Patriots game next Monday night? Even if you don’t want to tell us who your pick is, tell us how you think bettors will behave. Where do you think the public will wind up, and why?

Rob Gillespie, BoDog.ws: Colts undefeated, defense getting respect, coming off a bye week. The Pats’ injuries are common knowledge and they looked mediocre against the Bills on national TV. The public will be in on the Colts and even a few pros have appeared to jump that way early. The Patriots have been amazing in finding ways to frustrate the Colts in recent years, but the injuries at running back make the challenge especially tough. I can see it being closer than people expect, getting 3.5 at home would be enough for me to bite.

Ditto for the huge tilt in Blacksburg this weekend: Miami against Virginia Tech. Does Tech have another huge conference win in them? Does Miami have enough offense to score? Where will the public be on this one, and what do you expect the national title implications will be?

RG, BoDog.ws: Going to be an interesting game. Both teams have not played a tough opponent for weeks. Miami has been a double-digit fav in their last five games (and 20-point-plus faves their last four), while VT has been a double-digit fave their last seven games. Whoever gets out of the gate quick will have a huge advantage. Tech has held Miami in check the last two years and I can see that happening again. I expect public action to be split as people really aren’t sure about either of these teams. If VT can win, orbetter yet, win big, they can maybe pull a couple of votes away from USC or Texas, but the reality is they won’t get themselves into a title game unless one of those teams lose. They should get a boost in the computer polls which will help keep them ahead of Alabama and UCLA. Miami would likely only climb one spot with an upset and would need several teams to lose to have a title shot.

Is there any way Reggie Bush doesn’t win the Heisman?

RG, BoDog.ws: Yes. If UCLA holds him to 30 yards on 20 carries, he fumbles three times returning punts and the Trojans lose 48-10. Or if Vince Young puts up 500 combined yards a few more times in comeback wins.

What do you think of Theo Epstein resigning as GM of the Boston Red Sox? Is the world going to fall off its axis (as everyone in Boston seems to fear), or will the Sox will be a major contender in ‘06?

RG, BoDog.ws: If you asked me a month ago which of Epstein or Cashman would be with their team next year, I would have been wrong! The Red Sox must have some front office troubles; they win the World Series and Pedro bolts. Now they are contenders and ManRam wants out. Why do players want to go to the Yankees and leave the Red Sox?

Cash in From Kung Fu Panda!

Filed under: Story — admin @ 12:13 pm

Released in July 2008, the DreamWorks movie Kung Fu Panda offers some profits if you know how. Here are 3 methods you can use…

The first way is to set up your own Kung Fu Panda site. You could source it with loads of memorabilia, and arrange deals with the film makers and manufacturers for potential profit. The problem with this method is that you have to invest before you get the profit. It takes a lot of time and money arrange all the deals, and you will have to hold the stock and deal with all the delivery issues and so on.

There is potential there, because film memorabilia is undoubtedly a huge market, and Kung Fu Panda in particular works well in the toy and poster fields. I like the second method which is to use the affiliate model. With this technique you still get to promote all the official products, but you don’t have to set up a site or have a stock of the goods.

You send traffic to sites already selling the stuff, and if anyone buys, you get a commission. Yes, the commissions are not as much as if you sold the products yourself, but remember this method is totally no risk. It should also be noted that there is a poster site for example that has affiliates earning 5 figures a month from those commissions!

The third method, and it’s the one I prefer, is to provide information. Film fans love information, and Hollywood churns it out to promote the films. If you can write about the film, you can then generate traffic from people that read your articles. Then you can send that traffic to a site which is monetized. Kung Fu Panda has some big name stars – Dustin Hoffman, Jack Black, and in particular Angelina Jolie.

She is a tabloid dream, and with her just giving birth to twins, there is great potential to use this writing model.

So you can see there are several ways of tapping into movie profits, to cash in from Kung Fu Panda.

Pain Of Living

Filed under: Story — admin @ 12:13 pm

Pain. Immense pain. Sometimes unbearable, and sometimes incomprehensible. So many of us live life in pain. The pain of decision-making. The pain of thinking about life. The pain of keeping dead relationships alive. The pain of memories that haunt us. The pain of fear. The pain of getting up in the morning and the pain of sleepless nights. The pain of loss of someone most dear and the pain of waiting for them to return. Pain, and more pain in everything.

It is life. The life of pain. Look at your own eyes in the mirror and many times you will see the pain of tiredness. The pain of trying to run away from pain. Why? Because, we all live. Yes, pain comes because we live. Only dead have peace. Or very small children or saints. Rest of us are in some pain at all the times. Pain becomes such an essential part of life that many times, we tend to forget that we are living in pain. We become unaware of a life of cheer, and a painless life.

Is there anyway to counter the pains? Sometimes, when we begin losing our balance, we do approach psychiatrists. But if the choice is wrong, that may lead to bigger pain. Is a president of a nation without any pains? Ask him/her and you will get a basketful of surprises. Is a young teenager without pain? Ask and you will get another basket. Keep on listing and keep on asking. CEOs of companies, students, junior executives, shop owners, movie makers, celebrities, poor people…The list will be endless and so will be the story of pains.

Any way out of pains? One can reflect about what is happening in one’s life that is killing the essence of living. But that exercise will not take away any pain, unless we change ourselves totally. How to do that? Let us begin with reflecting and finding out what gives us pains. Count even the smallest pain. Let the journey of making enquiries begin. Coming out of pains will only follow that exercise. Take the first step. After reflecting about and counting all the pains, you may realize that some pains are totally inescapable.
