Any One For Tennis? Things You Should Know About the Game

Filed under: Story — admin @ 11:13 am

Isn’t tennis that a game for rich folks played at country clubs on warm Sunday afternoons? But my daughter’s enthusiasm bolstered me into action. It is important for a tennis player to learn from their own mistakes and to analyse their own game during a match. Mentally this makes the tennis player feel more comfortable, even when the advantage is slight. Tennis is great for mind and body.

The changes in the tennis clothes being worn during each era could be matched to the fashions of each era. The players can rule the hearts of the fans with their styles and skills only when they comfortably settle down with the right pair of shoes. You can expect these trends in tennis clothes to continue. A player’s second serve should be a different shot altogether. The French Open takes place in early June, and then a fortnight later comes the mighty Wimbledon, the tournaments of tournaments in the tennis world.

It is also vital that the tennis shoes have a smooth, flat sole because the knobs and bumps found on the soles of shoes can damage clay and grass court surfaces. And now, because of her, so do both her parents as well as her boyfriend. To that end, it’s a good place to begin playing tennis so that you can get the feel of a consistent surface.

Competitive and recreational players should use the same format when hitting their first and second serve. Line judges aren’t present at most of the matches. Females in this same era wore short tennis skirts. Part of feeling comfortable for many athletes is the ability to express a sense of who they are through their fashion choices. This also helps keep the tennis players dry and cool. Today, tennis players wear all sorts of stylish tennis clothes made of all sorts of synthetic fabrics and in all sorts of colors.

Asphalt tennis courts are very popular, they consist of a basic layer of asphalt and/or concrete that is topped with acrylic paint that is combined with sand to get a semi-sticky, grippy, consistent surface. Slice forces the ball to spin in towards the left. Nearly all tennis players wore all-white, cotton outfits in the early days of the game.

Some Tips To Help You Win At Tennis

Filed under: Story — admin @ 11:13 am

A Power Baseliner is a tennis player who prefers to play the base from the baseline than the net. This type of player is the most common sight in a professional game.

You can beat someone who tends to play from the baseline. The trick is to understand some simple tips. A professional player does not expect you to know these tricks. If you follow the tips correctly during your game, you can beat your opponent at his or her own game.

Make sure the other player has to hit a number of balls throughout the match. By constantly running around to return the ball you have just hit, you will quickly tire your opponent.

Watch your own shots. If you hit the ball short, the ball will be returned to you faster. By hitting the balls deep, you give yourself proper time to get back to the center of the court in preparation for the next volley.

Usually, Power Baseliners have a comfort zone. Study the player on the court and determine the height at which the tennis player is most comfortable swinging his or her racket. When you hit the ball, make sure the ball goes out of his or her comfort zone.

Hit many short shots so that the Power Baseliner is forced to move up to the net regularly. Try to keep the shots low so that your opponent has to struggle to get the ball back over the net. This pulls the other player out of his or her comfort zone and changes the dynamics of the game.

Vary your ball speed and spin. Keep your opponent guessing on what he will be chasing with the next volley. If he or she cannot predict your power and timing, the player is far more likely to blow the game.

Do not watch your opponent during the game. Instead, keep your focus on the aim of the ball. Use the angle of the ball to draw your Power Baseline adoring opponent out of his or her zone.

Try to hit low shots that come in near your opponent’s feet. Odds are high that he or she will fail to get the ball back over the net. A Power Baseline player wants balls that are high and long.

Use a top spin to ensure your balls go high and then drop in barely after passing the net. This will not be what your opponent wants or is used to.

If you move forward and return the ball before your opponent expects it, you will disrupt his or her plan of attack.

Beating a Power Baseline player at his or her own game is the key to winning. Remember that they want the ball to be high and deep. Keep them from their ultimate plan by mixing things up a little, and you are guaranteed a win.

Getting Match Tough for Tennis

Filed under: Story — admin @ 11:13 am

It has been said that the sport of tennis is a chess game when it has players who are at the same level. Why is then that one player seems to always pull out a victory over an equal opponent. By implementing a specific tennis strategy, or mental toughness if you will, you will more than likely come out on as the winner. Tennis has a gentlemen’s competitive spirit that brings a ray of light to the sport. Have you ever wondered how your friend all of a sudden started beating a person each time they played after losing many times initially? There are simple explanations of just becoming faster and being more fit, but what comes with that are improved skills and mental recognition during match play to execute shots in certain situations.

What you may see is better shot making, what a coach sees is someone who now hits the right shot at the right time, plays the percentages, and knows his or her opponent’s game. Upon recognizing your opponents, weaknesses, you can now start to effectively employ a strategy to win. In the beginning, you may not be able to do this but with repetition, it will improve and you will find yourself winning more sets.

For example, if you are losing to a serve and volley player, employ if you can, what world No.1 Roger Federer does and chip or slice returns back “low” to them feet and make them volley up. By having them volley up, it is a defensive shot into your court leaving you many offensive options. If you don’t have that shot yet, practice it. I can guarantee you will run into a serve and volley player. So, get more shots in your repertoire. if you have a player who loves to stay back and hit on the baseline, bring them closer to the net and test their mid-court game. Often, you find them hitting long shots from that court position. Yes, it truly is a mental game to see if you can win from various court positions. Andre Agassi, a true tennis legend and philanthropic man after his career, was known to hug or hit from just inside the baseline. This court positioning and where he hit the ball from what just one of his advantages against his opponents.

If you are a beginner, learning how to play tennis can be immensely enjoyable since you can play this sport well into retirement. There is even more satisfaction when your game rises to the level to where it becomes effortless yet you still have sound hitting and powerful strokes.

Unfortunately, tennis teaching has for quite some time become more intellectual, with a lot of instructions to remember at one time. The result is beginning tennis players who over-think move like robots. Many tennis players spend hundreds of dollars on lessons, only to be left with even more confusion than before… and still cannot keep the ball in play for more than a few shots!

Have you been taking tennis lessons and hitting hundreds of balls with no noticeable improvement? Ever notice the players who take months off or even a few years off and still look fluid once they return. They were taught the right way with the right techniques. Although, mastering tennis technique is only a small piece of the abilities and skills needed to play tennis. You can learn extremely easy and more economical with a tennis instructional video. In addition, you can play this over and over again and not at $50 per lesson. These videos can teach you the technique and how to play.

Banning Grunting From Wimbledon

Filed under: Story — admin @ 11:13 am

I have always been a big tennis fan. I played in high school on the tennis team and even more in college. It is a very underrated sport I think. I will admit that I used to watch tennis more often on TV than I do today (and it is a shame too because the women today are very attractive). Gone are the days of long volleys and baseline play, especially on the guys side of the draw. But I could live with that, and would still watch. What I can’t live with is the outrageously loud grunting that is allowed during play. I know darn well you can hit a tennis ball hard without grunting. Rackets are lighter so it is not like you are wielding a heavy object that takes Herculean strength to brandish.

Baseball players swing hard and pitchers throw awful hard, never heard ‘em grunt. Tiger Woods swings his sticks with a ton of force – again no grunting (although he was wincing in pain). I grunt like that when I walk but that is because I am fat, these guys and gals are in perfect condition and have no reason at all, whatsoever, to grunt other than to distract the opponent and make the sport absolutely unwatchable on TV without the mute button (which is a shame because then you miss the witty commentary of John McEnroe).

Now I know I am not breaking new ground here but some new ground or turf does need to be broken. Wouldn’t it be great to see them ban grunting at Wimbledon for the nationally televised games. New rule, you can’t play on center court if you are going to sound like an elephant in heat. Seems like a good rule to me, but what do I know.
